7th/8th grade Exploratory Spanish This is an introductory Spanish class that is a trimester (12 weeks) long. Every 8th grader will take Spanish and rotate with others every twelve weeks. During this time students will learn some basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar usage, we will discuss different topics that revolve around the Hispanic community via three movie videos, and students will participate in a variety of cultural experiences that include but are not limited to projects and taste testing experiences. It is a great way for students to be exposed culturally and linguistically in a short period of time.
Spanish I Grades 9-12, 2 credits (Year-Long) Must have knowledge in the mechanics of the English language and feel comfortable with grammar and sentence structure. Spanish I is an introduction to the Spanish language through the use of oral practice, written and reading materials. Four areas of emphasis includes speaking, listening, reading and writing in the Spanish language. Videos, music and games are used to reinforce these skills.
Spanish II Grades 10-12, 2 credits (Year-Long) *Must have successfully completed Spanish I with a C or higher. Spanish II is a direct continuation of Spanish I. This course stresses the skills of comprehension as well as speaking and writing. Students move towards more original expression in the Spanish language. It is very important that students know how to conjugate verbs and formulate simple sentences before taking Spanish II.
